    Economic Empowerment

    Supporting women entrepreneurs in Africa by combining mentoring with technology.

    Many women in developing and emerging markets have the ideas and ambition needed to become successful entrepreneurs, but are held back by barriers such as lack of access to business skills, technology, networks and finance. Mentoring breaks down these barriers by helping to accelerate the strides these women are already making and take their businesses, confidence and skills to the next level.

  • Greyton in 2030

    -

    I arrived in Greyton in early April 2012 and a number of things happened in short succession:

    1. While chatting to parents of children at Greyton House, the independent, co-educational English medium school in the village, a theme started emerging: many families have left Greyton in the past because they find it increasingly difficult to generate an income from the small addressable market in the village.

What is needed is a means of generating income at scale, but which does not impact the environment.

    2. In July 2012 I was told about a document called Theewaterskloof in 2030 – a report commissioned by the local municipality to model socio-economic trends for the next 18 years. It was surprising that there was no mention of technology as a form of income in the entire document. The report summarises the main contributors to the economy as:
    - Agriculture & hunting,
    - Manufacturing (including food processing),
    - Community, social and personal services (government services) and
    - Wholesale and retail trade (including the growing tourism sector).

    3. The efforts of Greyton Transition Town (GTT) have inspired me, and I wondered if we could, in parallel to GTT’s efforts, consider a transition of Greyton’s economy from a traditional labour-intensive economy to a more knowledge-based economy.

    As a result of these themes coming together, I used the title of the TWK document to produce Greyton in 2030 – blue sky thinking on the possible future of Greyton.

    After 18 years in the corporate world, I spent 2 years searching high mountain villages, remote monasteries and forgotten texts on a personal mission to uncover what’s missing in today's business world. Combining my personal discoveries with the latest philosophical and metaphysical breakthroughs of today, my original research crosses the traditional boundaries of commerce, science, history, politics and religion, offering fresh insights into meaningful business.

    My purpose in life is:
    - to live consciously, authentically and courageously;
    - to enjoy, increase, and share peace, energy, passion, and abundance;
    - to resonate with love and compassion;
    - to awaken awareness within others;
    - and to fully embrace this present moment.

    How can we change the world together?
